26_03_Why_Evidence

Prerequisites

I had a really hard time sharing my past experiments and thoughts due to lack of a proper journaling solution so I really wanted to start a personal blog to be able to share and document my journey.

After a bit of research I compiled some crucial things I wanted from a journaling solution:

  • It should be open source and self hostable
  • Static and not require a lot of maintenance
  • Not too hard to learn and use (I won't learn Svelte just to write a blog post for 3 visitors a month)
  • Customizable and extensible
  • Great visualization potential (due to my data background - I really like plots and charts)
  • Minimalistic

Finding Evidence

So at the end of the day I found Evidence which completely ticked all the initial requirements I set up.

It is open source and self hostable, markdown to dashboard is really cool, custom widgets in Svelte just make it so much more interesting for the future, and prebuilt plots and charts are pretty nice.

So as you could deduce, this blog is not only to hold my thoughts and experiments but also a way for me to learn Evidence.

Big hopes for Evidence to stick - I'll be sharing my thoughts and opinions here later when I'll compile a proper review of it.
